UPCOMING SHOWS

Civil Rights Exhibit
February 19 - April 2, 2020

From February 19 through April 2, 2020 the Gallery will host a Civil Rights exhibit curated by Armisey Smith. The Gallery project will feature artwork by African American and African diasporic artists that interprets their concepts of America’s civil rights history and the black experience in this country. The purpose of the exhibit is to showcase how blacks have experienced their lives in America in the Civil Rights era.

For more information see the Call for Artists, and if you decide to enter, pay your entry fee here

Several members of the art committee members were amongst those whose lives truly changed after participating in a TSTI-led Civil Rights trip to the deep south in the Spring of 2019. So much so, that the exhibit was in the works as soon as the group returned home.

As conceived, the show has the power to open minds as to how African Americans perceive the civil rights struggle, stimulating thought and perhaps move some people to appreciate the difficulties people of color still face in America today.

TSTI Youth Show
April 19 – June 18, 2020

For its final show of the season, the Gallery will host art by TSTI youth, ages 10 through 24. This exhibition is open for all young creatives within our community who have a passion to create and show their art.  We are accepting two- dimensional art, such as painting, drawing, collage, photography as well as sculpture. TSTI youth interested in participating click here.

ABOUT THE GALLERY AT TSTI

Created and curated by passionate temple members who work in and around the art world, the goal of The Gallery at TSTI is to bring the visual arts into TSTI in a more deliberate way. It will also help build community by providing a platform for artists to share their works and facilitating a dialogue between artists and art enthusiasts who would like to find out more about the visual art creative process. Gallery shows will be held inside the main Temple space, making it easy for all to see.

Email the committee at tstigallery@gmail.com with questions about upcoming shows, dates, acceptable media, limitations on subject matter, and more.

GUIDELINES FOR ARTISTS

GALLERY HOURS

Members and their guests may access the building during normal business hours without an appointment in the evenings and on Sunday when the building is open for other, non-worship programming, as long as they do not interfere with other programmatic use of the spaces.

Members and their guests may also access the Gallery spaces when the building is open preceding and immediately following worship -- however, members and guests are asked not to tour the gallery while worship is in progress.

Members will be expected to escort their guests.  Access to the building during the day is through the Religious School Lobby.

The Gallery is closed on Shabbat except as noted above on Friday, during the celebration of holidays and festivals as well as on Tuesday afternoon and Sunday morning when religious school is in session.
